3 Ways to Break the Chains of Sin
THE CURSE OF CHAINS
The sad reality is that all of us are born with an inherently sinful nature that causes us to have an urge to sin.
“Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me” - Psalm 51:5
While our sins may seem pleasurable at the moment, they actually drive a wedge into our relationship with God. They weigh us down and act as chains that hold us back from a more intimate relationship with our Lord and Savior.
THE CHAINS ARE ONLY AS STRONG AS THE PLACES THEY ARE ATTACHED TO
While this may appear bleak at first glance, know that the chains that bind you are only as strong as the places they’re attached to!
“Put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your mind. - Ephesians 4:22-23
WE HAVE BEEN FORGIVEN TO FREEDOM
Before God breaks our chains, we have to wholly submit to Him by letting go of the parts that are still attached. In other words, surrender to Him to be forgiven by Him.
“The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all who are bowed down.” - Psalms 145:14
God will not force Himself into our life, He waits to be invited. C.S. Lewis said, “He cannot ravish, He can only woo.”
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” - Revelation 3:20
PRAY, BUT DON'T JUST PRAY
Don’t just pray for rain, prepare your fields in expectation that your prayers will be fulfilled. In the same way, don’t just pray for forgiveness, surrender sins to Him in expectation that you will be forgiven.
