“Authentic Faith” A Teaching Series for High School

We are beginning a new series on Wednesday nights in our High School ministry on the topic, “Authentic Faith.” We will be studying what it means to have biblical faith, to have faith in God, and how we can know if our faith in the Lord is truly authentic. Our study will take us to Hebrews 11 as we will look at these “heroes of the faith” and how their real, genuine, and authentic faith in the one, true God was essential to their relationship with Him, and how without this “authentic faith” the Lord could not have worked in and through their lives.

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” Of course we know that “real faith” is not a blind leap, it is not a bare belief or intellectual understanding. It is simply a willingness to trust in, to rely on, and to cling to. What sigs of “authentic faith” do people see when they scrutinize our lives? Is there enough evidence to prove that our faith in God is real? There are definitely some outward marks from the Bible that are evidences of “authentic faith.” How are we doing with these marks?

  • Displaying the Beatitudes Jesus described (Matt. 5:3-16)

  • Thinking with a transformed mind, expressing genuine love and respecting authority (Romans 12:1-2; 13:1-7)

  • Overflowing with actions of love (1 Corinthians 13)

  • Displaying the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-26)

  • Imitating Christ’s humility & looking out for other’s interests (Philippians 2:1-4)

  • Praying without ceasing and giving thanks in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

  • Carrying out works of faith and compassion (James 2:14-17) controlling our tongues (3:1-11). And speaking wisdom (3:13)

  • Holding to the truth about Jesus (2 John 4; 3 John 3,4) and defending it (Jude 3)

In this series, we will examine our lives and consider that as others study our lives for evidence that we are followers of Christ, do we possess these marks of “authentic faith?”

Our entire lives are based around our faith, because we know that without faith, it is impossible to please God. Especially for high school students who are already constantly surrounded by things of this world and will soon be going to college where even more options and questions can arise, it is of incredible importance that each student has a foundational faith grounded in their heart and mind. We are so excited for this series, and we know that God will use His word and these times to strengthen, equip, and solidify student’s walks with Him.
