LEADER TESTIMONY | The Story Behind the Servant

I was about 11 years old when I accepted the invitation of having Christ into my heart - and afterwards I got a free backpack!! I remember when Calvary Chapel East Anaheim came down to my neighborhood in Downtown Anaheim and hosted a VBS during summer. It was awesome! I remember that my older brother and I would just go for the free food and the free backpacks. I never really asked myself what the motive was for this church to do this, especially in my neighborhood. At the time, I didn’t believe in any god because of how much my parents hated each other. I would ask God if He were real and if He was, if He would please change my mother and father, but nothing happen. So I just stopped begging.

After the VBS ended, the church came back in December with more free stuff, and I was like “YAAASSS.” Some of the people were handing out gifts, but I wanted an extra gift. They told me that if I brought one of parents back with me to them, then they could give me one more gift. So I ran back to the apartments and I begged my mom to come back with me. I remember her telling me to leave her alone, but I begged her to come with me so I could get the extra gift. She finally said yes, but little did I know that this was going to be the day that God would change my mother’s life forever.

When we got there, Pastor Ozzi started talking to my mom and ended up asking her if she wanted to accept Christ as her Savior and for Him to live in her. And she said yes. After my mom accepted Christ, I started to see a real change in her life. That’s when I really started believing in God . Long story short, my mother, father, grandmother, my aunt, my nephews, my three brothers, and even I, by grace, got saved. As I look back on my life I get to see the Mercy and Grace Jesus has for me in EVERY step of the way.

“You didn't choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.” John 15:16
