God at Work: Jessica Dobrea
God at Work // What God is Teaching Our Students
This week, we get to hear about what God has been teaching our student, Jessica Dobrea! Jessica serves on the technical production team here in Youth, and is such an important part of this family! Her love for God and the love and kindness she shows towards His people is such a blessing and we are so thankful for who she is and how God is working in her life!
“When I was asked to write about what God has been doing in my life right now, so many things came to my mind about what I could share. But God put it on my heart to share about building a foundation on the Lord, and how relationships can help with that. Relationships with those who have already built their foundation on Christ are very helpful. Although it’s good to have relationships with unbelievers, too, so that you can minister to them, deep relationships with believers are a blessing and are needed in our walk with Christ. I never understood what it meant to build a foundation on the Lord with someone else until one of my Christian friends from school pointed out how sinful my life was. Throughout high school, I’ve had 2 boyfriends that were unbelievers. God never failed to show me how sinful those relationships were, but I was stubborn and ignored Him because I thought I loved those boys. This friend helped me realize that I needed to change my life and how I was living.
When I became single, I didn’t know what to do with my life. Because I had built my foundation on my boyfriends, when they left I felt as if I had nothing left. But despite how I often felt, God NEVER failed to show me that He was always there, and that through it all, I have Jesus. I don’t need a guy because Jesus loves me. So I started reading God’s Word everyday and build a firm foundation on Him.
Matthew 7: 24-25 says, “Anyone who listens to my teachings and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on a solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against the house, it won’t collapse because it’s build on bedrock.” It is so important to have relationships with people that have a foundation on Christ so that when you go through trials, or even if you have something exciting to share, you have someone who will always point you to Christ.
Finally, after God taught me that no other relationship would work out, He gave me a Christian boyfriend. He has been such a blessing in my life and has taught me so much about how important it is to STAY CLOSE to God. The song “Build My Life” by Housefires sings, “I will build my life upon your love, it is a firm foundation. And I will put my trust in you alone and not retake it.” Everyone will fail you, but the one person that will NEVER ever fail you, is God. So build your foundation on the Lord and when trials come, you will be able to rejoice because you know that He has a plan for every trial. He won’t leave you in the dust, but He will take you out of the dust. He holds onto you so tight, and that love is irreplaceable. “
