Open When You're Facing Spiritual Warfare

10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Principalities, powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, spiritual wickedness in high places (verse 12). Satan and his devils are at work against you on a personal, communal, and global level.

The wiles (schemes, methods) of the devil. Satan uses temptation and accusation against us. He magnifies the pleasures of sin and minimizes the consequences of sin. 1 Peter 2:11 says, “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul.” Sin is insanely destructive. Revelation 12:10 calls Satan the “accuser of the brethren.”  We see that played out in the book of Job, chapter 1. I believe he, or his devils, attack us personally as well with accusations after we’ve sinned in some way.  This is an attempt to get you to focus on your sin, and not on the finished work of Jesus Christ. Romans 8:1 says, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” The truth is, we’re all missing the mark far worse than we realize, and yet, we stand righteous before God through our faith which is in Christ Jesus.  God does correct us, but He is gracious in that He’ll correct us little by little as we are transformed into the image of Christ.

Read and memorize the word

“Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” -Psalm 119:11

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.” -Proverbs 30:5

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” -Romans 10:17

Praise and Thanksgiving

“I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.” -Psalm 34:1

“I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.” -Psalm 89:1

“In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.”  -1 Thessalonians 5:18

“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”  -Hebrews 10:24-25

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” -Galatians 6:2

Lay Aside Dead Weight

“let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us…”

“If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.”  -Matthew 5:29-30.

There are some things which may not be sin in themselves, but they are dead weights which hold you back from running this race with endurance.

One thing I’ve learned after walking with the Lord for 12 years is that yesterday’s victories cannot fight todays battles.  Do the things you know to do. Read the Bible, pray, fellowship, and worship the Lord. It is more blessed to give than to receive. Happiness/Love/Joy/Peace is found in giving your life unto the Lord and serving others.
